Marine Biologist for a Day

The Floating Laboratory is a scientific exploration of the ocean and by far our most popular offering.  As students board the boat they are transformed into apprentice Marine Biologists and Oceanographers in this comprehensive course.  Our student scientists set and pull the bottom trawl net, sort and identify the catch, collect plankton samples, perform ocean water chemistry and observe marine mammals and birds in their natural environment.  The facility based Discovery Lab portion of the course offers the students the opportunity to dissect squid and learn about about their various adaptations for ocean life.  Students will also view and discuss the variety of plankton caught on the boat and how they play a role in food webs and the larger ecosystem.

4 hour program $26 per person; minimum fee is $800 (covers up to 30 people)
